We discussed how to build a new application based on an existing application. I went through the process step-by-step. We also continued a discussion on SQL, specifically how to take a DBF application and convert it to SQL.

Four in attendance. It was an SQL Day! We figured out how to dynamically set the database based on who is logged in. So person A might be using client1.mdb, and person B might use client2.mdb. We defined all the connection strings in the A5i file, and set a session variable to the appropriate connection alias, using a lookup to the Users table. Then on each A5W page, over wrote the value that defines the connection as in:

cs.ConnectionString = "::name::"+alltrim(session.myconnection)

It was touch and go, but we figured it out in the final minutes of the session.

Discussed record locking on a web application. Got opinions from all members regarding performance as user count goes up. Also discussed what processes eat up bandwidth and how to monitor.

Discussed SQL versus DBF tables, Active Link versus direct connect.

Discussed how to determine if an index is corrupt on login, how to recover and alert the Admin. I provided a script that does this.

Al and I helped resove a developers publishing problem. We remoted into her server, determined the problem and helped to fix what had become convoluted over time.
